| 研究課題1 |
①「欧米人の目から見た明治・大正時代の日本」をテーマとして、１９世紀末～２０世紀の初めにかけて日本を訪れた欧米人の旅行記や自伝などに見る日本の文化と社会の研究。その中で特に、明治23年出版『日本・人力車旅情』の作者である著作者・写真家・地理学者のエリザ・シドモアの研究と、明治４年から６年にかけて日本に滞在したチャールズ・A・ロングフェロ（アメリカの詩人ヘンリー・ワーズワース・ロングフェローの息子）の研究に力を入れている。
